They offered you 1 free if you paid $10 for the first dvd. They charge you another $5 per disc for shipping & handling for a total of $20 after which you must agree to let them send you 2 dvd's per month for the rest of your life at $40 plus per month. I must admit that the picture and sound are quite remarkable but the bad thing is that you only get 1 or 2 songs by the artists you like most and a bunch of other music by artists you never cared much for. These dvds could have been much nicer if 4 or 5 songs had been featured by each artist and if the dvd's named the specific artists featured so that the buyer could choose the music most suitable to their liking. Instead you get a variety show mix of performances where you like 1 or 2 songs and pan the rest of the stuff. Sure, it would be nice to see more performances from the acts you love more, but it wouldn't be realistic to do it that way... so a little taste as broad as possible is a wise choice. I like that the one hit wonders are mixed in with the timeless stars, so I can get little treats like Orleans: Dance With Me that I would not get any other way. It's somewhat irritating that Bert Sugarman feels compelled to plaster his name all over this. It's on the cover, and his name and Midnight Special logo fire up at the start of every song, plus credits after them. No doubt it's to provide proper attribution when people upload these to YouTube, but it's annoying. Sound and picture are decent... not up to today's standards, naturally, but worthy of the DVD medium... Read more |
